Do's and Don'ts in Children's Gardening

Do

Help your child establish his or her own garden plot.

Have the child give you their input and ideas (Allow them to have a sense of ownership).

Use large print when writing out tags, so that all ages can read it.

Use simple common names for the children to understand.

Make certain that children wash all edible plants, fruits and vegetables before eating, you never know when chemicals may have been used on them.

Don't

Use poisonous plant material - ie. poison ivy, plants with poisonous parts if consumed.

Do not allow children around plant material immediately after applying pesticides, or fertilizers.

Leave tools and sharp equipment laying around the garden area.
